Zellij terminal multiplexer review
Zellij is a terminal workspace. It has the base functionality of a terminal multiplexer (similar to tmux or screen) but includes many built-in features that would allow users to extend it and create their own personalized environment. I explore this new terminal multiplexer and show off its extensibility with its plugin interface!

The SHARP PC-7000 'Portable' PC from 1985
Переглядів 64421 день тому
This video is sponsored by PCBWay, for high quality PCBs and CNC machining, visit www.PCBWay.com! In 1985, ‘luggables’ were not a new thing. We had seen them since at least 1981, with the CP/M-based Osborne One. The Compaq Portable was the first IBM PC-style luggable, released in March 1983. The thing, however, about luggables, is that they were essentially a whole PC in a box the size and weig...

In this video, we dive into the 35th anniversary of the World Wide Web, a creation that started as Sir Tim Berners-Lee's vision of a decentralized platform fostering collaboration, compassion, and creativity. Born in the halls of CERN, the Web was destined to become a global force for good, empowering individuals and communities through the revolutionary technologies of HTML and HTTP. However, ...
Back to text mode. Is the GUI causing our minds to melt down?
Переглядів 676Місяць тому
I've often wondered if my life with 30 apps open on my graphical desktop is actually slowing me down rather than making life better. What if we took some of the advantages to a modern workstation but went back to the text mode terminal for most of our workflows? could it be done? should it? I'd love to hear your thoughts! #commandline #textmode #operatingsystem
The ego involved in making an operating system

Forget Raspberry Pi: Meet the GMKtek Nucbox G3 - The Ultimate Budget PC #N100 for $99 / $199
Переглядів 1,8 тис.3 місяці тому
I bought this GMKtec nucbox G3 for $199 USD with 16GB RAM and 512GB M2 storage. A barebones version is also available for $99. Not only is it cheap, but it's small, quiet and comes with Windows 11. But is it any good!? This review tears down the machine showing the insides and outsides and what performance is like, I even run it through its paces on Geekbench! There are a lot of these small 'nu...

The first PC on my desk at work was a "Columbia" 8086-based clone from 1982. 2x 5.25" floppies, a full 640k of memory, 4MHz processor. It lacked the IBM BASIC interpreter, but anyone with access to an EPROM burner, an original IBM ROM no scruples about piracy could easily fix that. Later on, compilers became available and programs which took 4 or 5 minutes to run through an interpreter ran in seconds as a compiled executable. My first upgrade was to a -286 machine with a massive 20MB hard disk, which we were never going to fill 😂. As someone who has built many PCs over the years, I like the ability with the IBM PC and its descendants to customise the build with the best components for my, or my colleagues' needs. For that reason, I have never been a fan of Apple's closed architecture model and proprietary software.
A small powerful toy Nucbox G3 for big men! 😁
I learned Unix / Xenix on 6:48 Tandy Radio Shack TRS-80 Model 16/6000 (late 1980s IIRC)
Excellent video. I am writing to you to see if you can help me. I am reviewing my Lotus 123 that I have saved and transferred from computer to computer, Version 2.2 that saves the files as .WK1 and that I emulate it with DosBox 0.74, but I have some files that are WK4 and I would like to know if you know how to convert these WK4 to WK1 which were how I originally saved them. I would greatly appreciate it if you can give me the solution to this. (My OS is Windows 10) I thank you in advance. Jean batalle.

8:58 I'm using Twibright Labs Links web browser for DOS 2.29 binary from March 2023 and it works just fine.
Yeah if I single man has something and he doesn't know how to approach outsiders it usually ends up like this. I know some arrogant people who are independents are their hubris gets in the way of their success. It's narcissism plain and simple. And then there's the wife. Insert script here. His fault, his problem.
Where can you download the manual ?

I watched your documentary because I am a fan of microcomputer technology, as well as an end-user. I enjoy stories with people using the microcomputer. My own microcomputer, which is a Dell brand, is still my powerful typewriter. My first microcomputer was a Cybernet which model was an all-in-one PC, that I purchased in 2002. Thank you very much for showing!💙
X or Twitter... X-twitter, like ex-twitter ;) Or Xitter, using the common pinyin pronunciation of the character X ;)
And Gates thinks he is a geniius in medics also
Data: It's revolting! 😵 Guinan: More? 🧙 Data: Please! 😀
Ive been using PureOS as my daily driver for years, its an OS without the tracking/calling home function that ubuntu does.
very interesting
this really helped thanks for the tip! why did people created 16bit installers for 32bit programs back in 2000. So dumb.
I'm not considering the *ubuntus until they remove the Snaps.
just an FYI you should make a "HIstory of Terminal multiplexing" video it sounds like you have a lot of experience on the subject.
Compared to BTX and Minitel which was the closest thing to Nabu we had in Germany and France, Nabu feels like leaps and bounds ahead of what the competition could do.
Its Num Bat.... not noomba
It's about dang time
i quite like your color scheme
This dude has the most "New Zealand-y" face that I've ever seen. But I don't hear the stereotypical NZ accent that I'd expect. I like this multiplexer, thank you. I didn't know it existed.
Haha I live in New Zealand these days but I'm from Scotland, so I'll never sound like a kiwi!
Of course it's going to be able to do https if you have a library for it, you may just have to wait a bit longer to load pages. That's not a "never" thing.
I don't think it'll ever be able to do it on a low end computer like an xt to be honest, they are 16/8 bit machines and processing 256/512/1024 but encryption keys is just so high end for that sort of a CPU, it wouldn't be worth waiting for. The solution to offload to a raspberry pi or a nuc or something using retro-proxy is a great solution and works great for me
As a long time screen/Byobu user, this may finally get me to switch to something more modern. I love how you can lock the UI instead of needing to escape all the keypresses that would otherwise conflict with it.
I don’t see enough “cool” or must have features to really switch off tmux. Thanks for informing all of us about it though
This is just encouraging my urge to make my install scripts for my open source software ansi art based.
Cool, I have an XT clone I'm trying to fix. It will have V20 chip, 2MB EMS, XT-IDE, and Hercules. This should push it to it's limits! I wouldn't mind seeing a Windows 3.0 real mode browser, and Windows 3.1 standard mode browser.
Nice.
Max out the RAM and attach a RS232 to WiFi adapter to the serial port and MicroWeb would run nicely on this machine ;)
And what a fitting use that would be for such a machine! 😀
Maybe someone will make a wireless modem card, with a dedicated processor for encryption onboard, someday. 🤷♂️
I have a project that lasts a few years, which consists of implementing an rpi-zero on a pci 10/100 network card. No configuration is necessary in Windows 98, the system makes requests normally, the network card sends it to rpi, it does all the hard work, and returns it to the network card ready to be rendered in the most compatible way possible with Internet Explorer 5.
Dos sucks! Do something with unix-like! Woooo!
Emacs eww
i like web
There's plenty of hardware encryption solutions that are amenable to being put on an Isa card. I wouldn't rule out https just yet.
Offloading the https to a retro-proxy has worked very well for me these last few days. If you have any examples of isa card stuff I'd love to hear about them
@@AlsGeekLab there are Isa cryptographic co-processor cards, but most of them were made around 1997 and are pretty rare. Still, there are cryptographic co-processors for embedded systems which could be easily interfaced to a PC. For example, Analog Devices DS28S60 has an SPI interface and could do the job. Even just a raspberry pi Pico on an Isa card with some voltage level shifters could do the job. There is a sound card based on the same arrangement that can emulate a gravis ultrasound, an ad-lib, or a sound blaster 1.5. cryptography should be no problem.
It's been in development for 4 years, yet still is unable to parse basic HTML without crashing. If Arachne is a useless toy, this one is a useless broken toy.

Love it. but it would be even cooler if it was running its own network. kind of darkweb, but for normal people, but far away from corporate www
There is no reason why you couldn't set one up!
Love your videos 👍
I used to connect to the work website with lynx just to mess with the developers when they review the browser uage.
Woohooo! Can’t wait to develop website for microweb
Jokes on you, my website is already microweb compatible.
This is wonderful!
I used to use Arachne a lot back in the day. Good times.
Came to see if Arachne was getting any love in the comments--glad to see this :)
@@blankbruno70 @ToumalRakesh I played with Arachne multiple times. Didn't "need" to use it, but it was fun. This looks nice.
Mouse support? 🤔
Yeah Dos mouse driver
Did you not even watch 3 minutes in?
yeah, but no pointer in Hercules for some strange reason.
@@danaeckel5523 But this video shows this browser in a colour mode, is it work there?
Yes, mouse is 100% supported. I use the ctmouse free driver and it works great
very nice!
it doesn't get a lot geekier than this... loving it!
Fantastic! Thanks for letting us know about this! I'm just amazed at how well it works on old and limited hardware.
